The Freelance Writer's Marketing Plan
I have an unexplained background in sales. Outside sales to be exact, the sweating-in-pantyhose-and-black-high-heels-and-being-thrown-out-of-your-office kind of outside sales. In business, this kind of door-to-door sales is scorned upon and brings a chest-pounding terror to the faint of heart. Yes, to be scorned by even used car salesmen and the squeaker of a pimple-faced telemarketer. But, I crossed UAW picket lines for 14 months as the wife of the owner's son (they built semitrailers) when I was nineteen and was a single mother for twenty-four years. I was fearless and incredibly stupid! I now know that much of that door knocking and scorn can be avoided by a good marketing plan. Whenever I feel myself becoming desperate and start polishing my black high heels I know I need to write a marketing plan. It's helpful that the magic of the internet allows me to access the collective brain and not have to write one from scratch.
